when I moved to the U.S. at age 20 (3 years ago) I thought it would be a good idea to get involved in Politics.. so I decided to apply to the United States Senate Page Program.. Thinking this would be a good way to learn how things worked & get "my foot in the door" ... Unfortunately I was Turned down for being "Too Old" (turns out the men in the Senate are only interested in being around... Younger Girls... between the ages 15-17)
I've been exploring this "Page" Program in various U.S. States as a way to get Girls involved in Politics.. Where they could be involved in the Meetings, have their opinions heard and be involved in the decision making process ...What I learned.. Shocked me... News story from the Washington Post ... on the Virginia State Senate Taking Lunch orders for Men... and carrying it into the Senate Chamber for them? Seriously? being "Punished" for taking Notes during a Senate Session... isn't that what you *SHOULD* be Doing? not only for the Learning process but to discuss these things with the Senator to give your opinion.. The Page Program for Girls in the State of Virginia should not only be a learning experience but where your voice can be heard... it's *NOT* to fetch Lunch for older men.. or stand around saying "yes sir .. no sir" holding doors open or delivering packages or papers between offices.. What is this? some Patriarchy training course for Girls on how to be a good wife and learn to do as she is told? It's time we call for a change to this program to ensure it is empowering to young women... these photos published by the Washington Post are horrible.. and it's happening all across the U.S. in many States.. Reform is need... “In September 1995, women from all around the world came to Beijing for the Fourth World Women’s Conference. Even though I wasn’t born until the next year, this conference influences my life today as a girl and as I approach womanhood.” Read 17-year old Christina’s story about how the Beijing Platform for Action influences her life. http://ow.ly/zoUoe #Beijing20
No woman, no matter how powerful, is immune from unprompted body appraisal, it seems—in a new interview, the New York senator says colleagues on Capitol Hill told her things like ‘You need to be beautiful again.’
"Women's rights -- even those we believe are well-established by law -- are in jeopardy when the Constitution is silent about them."
